June 4, 2019 Marta Bright

We hope you enjoyed the first full day of Summit, including keynote presentations from Frank Slootman, Christian Kleinerman, and Steven Levitt.

Recap of Frank Slootman’s keynote

Frank Slootman, Snowflake Chairman and CEO, provided the opening keynote today.

Frank began by sharing the Summit mission: we’ve gathered this week to share knowledge. Snowflake customers are eager to share their knowledge, a sign of the tremendous business value customers are getting from their data.

Frank also gave attendees a look back at the major milestones in Snowflake’s history, quantifying the momentum the company is seeing in employees, markets, and customers.

Frank announced the Snowflake Data Exchange, which enables customers to discover and instantly get new data. Customers can join this with existing data in Snowflake to drive business insights. For data providers, this opens up opportunities to build new products and revenue streams. Read more.

Recap of Christian Kleinerman’s keynote

Following Frank’s keynote, Christian Kleinerman, Snowflake VP of Product Management, gave a presentation on Snowflake product innovation.

Christian reflected on the events and achievements of the past year and looked ahead by detailing key pieces of the Snowflake roadmap. Looking back, he summarized the major features released in the past 12 months and detailed Snowflake’s regional and cloud expansion, trends on storage, and trends on data sharing.

Christian detailed Snowflake’s product plans in the following categories:

  • Core data warehouse functionality
  • Data pipelines
  • Global Snowflake
  • Secure Data Sharing

For Snowflake’s core data warehouse, Christian detailed new features related to extensibility, geospatial data, and the Worksheets 3.0 query editor.

For data pipelines, Christian covered credential-less stages, Snowpipe auto ingest, and a Kafka connector. For Global Snowflake, Christian introduced Snowflake Organizations, which federates multiple locations, monitors usage, and provides automated policies and parameters.

For secure data sharing, Christian detailed Snowflake Data Exchange, which provides a data discovery catalog with categories, as well as an integrated consumption experience. Read more.
